A Trip to Arkansas

Friday saw us heading toward Arkansas for a quick, but enjoyable trip of surprising some folks at a little, old country church for their last day of VBS! We had a wonderful time of fun and fellowship.

Saturday we went canoeing at Flint Ridge, a place where Papa made many boyhood memories. A few friends were able to join us and we all had a blast!

Getting set up to head out

We all divided up into teams of two and launched to paddle around for a little bit until Papa joined us after taking the youngsters on a short ride.

Papa and Joshua ready to join the rest of the clan already out on the water

When Papa left, Joanna and Caleb took over and did a fabulous job of manning the canoe by themselves around the area that Mama and the little ones stayed to swim and wade.

Daniel (pictured on left) thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the water! He splashed and played and absolutely loved it much better than grass for sure

As the majority of us we looking for fossils, Josiah and Joshua couldn't resist the urge of getting all the way into the water… and there just happened to be a rope swing down the river a little ways which, after persuading a few people to join them, they headed over and had an absolute blast swinging and dropping into one of the deepest parts of the river! The rest of us got a kick out of watching them for a while :)

After the boys got done swimming, two of them decided that they wanted to try getting into their canoe from the swimming hole. They did a great job and accomplished the goal!

It was kinda funny in that we docked just as the pickup bus was driving out of sight… so we all spent the next two hours wading and swimming :)  That was about as fun as the canoe trip!
When we finally did get picked up, we met up with Mama and the younger ones at a nearby park and dove in for a much needed but late lunch. The kids enjoyed playing while we ate, and then we all headed over to a close waterfall and enjoyed playing, talking and singing before heading back to where we were staying.

A few candid shots of Anna and Elisabeth taken by Laura that turned out to be pretty funny :-D

Our beloved Parents! We are so thankful for their investment in our lives and for showing us that we can have fun simply by enjoying God's creation and spending time with each other!
