A Day at the Zoo!

Posted by Anna

Last Monday our family was invited to join some friends at the zoo for their little boy's birthday, but Papa had some things that he needed to get done, so us kids decided to take all the youngsters and head to the Zoo for the better part of the day, giving space for undivided attention at home for Mama and Papa.

What a time we all had! It was an absolutely beautiful day, especially for a trip to the Zoo in the middle of January (69* F)! While we were waiting for our friends to show up, we all gathered in the middle of the Zoo entry (which is a painting of the world on the cement/tile ground that floors the entry: great fun for the little ones, and the big ones as well, to explore! We thrilled in practicing our geography! :) … And sang a couple songs: "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands", "God Likes People", "Happiness is to Know the Savior", and part of a song titled "I Believe" which was especially fitting for singing at the Zoo as you will see in the words to the chorus below:

I am not descended from monkeys,
Though you may be fooled at first glance.
I'm the work of God, my Creator!
I am not a product of chance.
I did not evolve from a tadpole
Who got lost and wondered ashore;
But by God's hand, His will and plan,
I am, and nothing more.

After a while we got connected with our friends and took off for an extensive tour around the Zoo...

We then went to go see the Giraffes, and on the way saw Mr. and Mrs. Red River Hog and their precious babies (aren't they so cute???) born on October 2013. Then we finally arrived at the side of the giraffes' arena where we found out that Mr. and Mrs. Giraffe had had a little bundle of joy added in September 2013 to their clan!

After touring around a while, we headed over the "Oklahoma Trails" and had a snack lunch at the base of the trails...

...Then headed up to enjoy seeing the creatures that are native to our state territory.

We then headed to the lake side of the zoo, and enjoyed looking at a couple of animals there as well, but our time was drawing to a close, so kinda had to run through it :)

We had a great time at the zoo, and thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the different kinds of animals God created. We did not exhaust the whole zoo, but enjoyed what were able to see before it was time to go to dinner. We are definitely looking forward to going again!

"When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers,
the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
What is man, that thou art mindful of him?
and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
… O LORD our Lord,
how excellent is thy name in all the earth!"
Psalm 8:3, 4, 9
