What's "Normal"?

Image
Well, school has started back with everyone now and we are back to a "normal" schedule for the first time since the end of this past May. We have been almost a week into seeing Papa off to work in the mornings with a small sing time and Bible reading with everyone who can read, and we are thoroughly enjoying the feeling of being on a consistent and predictable schedule at least for the time being. Something is being passed around right now, so a few of us are under the weather, but, Lord willing, that will be gone soon.   The violin and piano studio has fired back up now, so Anna's staying busy with teaching and directing private piano and violin lessons every as well as violin group classes, and she is thoroughly enjoying it!  Elisabeth has started making bread to sell and already has a few weekly costumers! She has become our family's "kitchen queen". She likes it and the rest of us are very thankful for all the hard work she puts into it!  J...

Let there be... Electricity!

For a quick update, just a few minutes ago we had our electricity come back on! :) Praise the Lord! The power companies have been working very hard to supply power back to the residents of OKC who had lost it. Even though it is not really a necessity for living, it sure is nice because of the conveniences it provides. :) Thank you to all of you who have kept us in your thoughts and prayers! We are getting word that there could possibly be some more weather coming our way this afternoon and evening possibly presenting some large hail and strong winds as well as flash floods again. So we'll see how long we have the electricity back… Hopefully we don't lose it again, but we'll trust that the Lord knows what's best. Coming up this next weekend is a family camping trip to Roman Nose State Park! ~ Anna*

Just missed by a Tornado!

Image
This past Friday started out normal with our usual routine of housecleaning. Everyone has a room to clean and we try our best to get the whole house cleaned before lunch. That plan worked very well as it usually does and next on the planned agenda was afternoon errands. Papa got home early due to some forecasts of bad weather coming our way in the evening, so Elisabeth and I took everyone out shopping for dinner and the next few days, having no clue what we would be facing within the soon approaching hours. Soon after we arrived back home, we girls started on dinner while the younger ones took to playing outside. Shortly after supper was in the making and in the oven, I looked up my favorite weather channel: KFor live streaming. I connected it to the computer so we could go in the room and take a peak any time, and soon found out that the OKC metro was in serious danger of being severely damaged by three tornadoes. Most of us, being very weather interested and curious, went outsid...

Pray for Moore, OK

Image
I know most of you if not all have been observing the news from the Moore tornado, but here are some pictures from Ron, Josiah and Laura today when they went down there as volunteers. Laura is here beside me as I write this post to help with the explanations of the portraits. Of course, they will not capture the ultimate effect of the devastation, but I have tried to choose the ones that would give the best idea. Please pray for these people who lost everything as well as the ones who are trying to be of help in getting this city back to normality as best as possible.  A view from the church bus near the entrance of one of the stricken areas One of the houses that still had a standing closet! These people probably never thought that they would need an out house placed in their front yard.    A view of a part of Brierwood Elementary school Cars... NOT THE PLACE TO BE DURING A TORNADO!!! Rain...rain...and more rain!

Image
Well, we woke up to this scene this morning. This is looking out of our side driveway down the street: Water everywhere, and still coming! Ron, Josiah and Laura went with our church to help Moore with part of the tornado cleanup today. What a messy, wet, muddy day for that, but they need all the help they can get right now, so the group headed out.. through the shallow part of the river in front of our house. Boy, did the youngsters enjoy such a start to their day! They were out in the rain as much as we would let them be :) More on the happenings of today and this weekend will be announced soon. Stay tuned for further updates! :) ~ Anna*
